CHERYL has had eight tattoos done including a rose design on her lower back and bum.

Here's the lowdown on the former X Factor judge's tattoos - both past and present..

What are Cheryl's tattoos and what do they mean?

Cheryl has eight tattoos all of which have different meanings...

Roses on bum and lower back

The singer has a striking design on her bum and lower back of English roses - her favourite flower.

This tattoo covers up Cheryl's previous designs of a butterfly on her lower back, a single rose on her bum from 2007 and her Tweety bird tattoo.

She got the design after she battled malaria in 2010 following a trip to Tanzania when she climbed Mount Kilimanjaro for Comic Relief.

Her near death experience changed her perspective on life so she decided to fulfil her dream of getting a big tattoo.

The design which took 15 hours to complete has been branded "the worst tattoo of all time."

But Cheryl responded to criticism online, tweeting "People are entitled to their own opinion. Personally I’ve never really concerned myself with other people’s body parts!”

Her ex Liam Payne also has a rose tattoo on his hand which many considered to be a tribute to Cheryl.

Red heart tattoo

After getting her big rose tattoo on her bum and lower back, Cheryl said she wouldn't get any more.

But in April 2016 she got a tiny tattoo of a heart on her left-middle finger.

She shared a picture of the design on Instagram writing "My new baby ink."

Buddhist cleavage tattoo

The Unalome is Cheryl's most recent tattoo - she got it in May 2016.

The design is a Buddhist symbol which is said to symbolise the path of enlightenment.

Butterfly and swirly lines on lower back

This design represented Cheryl's fresh start after her divorce from Ashley Cole.

It has now been covered up by the rose tattoo on Cheryl's back - according to The Mirror it symbolised her "fresh start" and "new independence."

She had the butterfly done in 2002 and in 2011 she added the swirling pattern.

The additions to the design took 11 hours at the Shamrock Social Club in Los Angeles.

Tweety Bird on bum

Like the butterfly design this has now been covered by her big rose tattoo.

This was Cheryl's first ever tattoo - she got it when she was 16.

It symbolised the birth of her nephew after her sister gave birth to her first child.

She also chose it due to the similarity between "Tweety" and her maiden name "Tweedy. "

Treble Clef and rose on right thigh

Cheryl really loves roses.

Aside from her big back and bum piece she has a tattoo of a rose with barbed wire on her right thigh.

The Treble Clef symbol is used on sheet music and represents her music career - she got it shortly after joining Girls Aloud in 2002.

Maori tribal design on right hand

The design on Cheryl's right hand is a Polynesian Maori Design.

It stands for the letter C which could refer to her name.

In a 2010 interview with The Guardian Cheryl said: "I like the one on my hand, the little one. Just an abstract thing."

Mrs C on neck

Cheryl got this tattoo in 2006 after she got married to Ashley Cole.

Even though they divorced in 2010 Cheryl decided not to have it removed.

For a while she didn't change her name, choosing to be known as Cheryl Cole.

She became Cheryl Fernandez-Versini when she remarried Jean-Bernard in 2014 but then reverted back to Tweedy when she started dating Liam Payne in 2016.

Cheryl and Liam Payne split after two-and-a-half-years but vow to remain close to raise their son Bear together
